Since January 1st, 2012, the doctoral school "Environement - Santé" (ES) brings together 23 research teams in the fields of health, biological and environmental sciences of the universities of Burgundy (uB) and Franche-Comté (uFC). This represents 778 researchers including 490 HDR. Since January 1st of 2016, doctoral studies are under the responsibility of the University of Bourgogne Franche-Comté (UBFC). The themes of the research teams in environment and biology bring together the different fields of biology but also particular fields such as climatology, geology, agronomy, astronomy, paleontology. Research actors involved in the health sector focus on pharmaceutical research, agri-food and human nutrition, various aspects of human pathology, and interactions with the environment. This domain includes boundary behavior with human sciences such as cognitive psychology (behavioral adaptations) or clinical psychology (affects, emotions, etc.). The approaches of these research teams are fundamental, therapeutic or rehabilitative. Finally, topics such as chemistry, physics, computer science and geography are also present in this doctoral school. For the academic year 2017/2018, the doctoral school ES gathers 392 doctoral students and 81 thesis defenses took place for the year 2017. According to the decree of May 25th, 2016, the missions of the doctoral schools (ED) are multiple, but can be summarized in: to ensure the training of the doctors and their preparation for the professional insertion. The doctoral school ES organizes conferences and seminars and, in coordination with the Doctoral Mission, encourages multidisciplinary by offering a wide range of training. In addition, it strives to financially support certain research activities for doctoral students (travel expenses, conferences, etc.).

EDIFICE is the association of PhD students in Life Sciences, Earth and Environment of the University of Burgundy, which was created in 2003. Since its beginning, EDIFICE has set itself the goal of bringing together the private sector and PhD young researchers. Indeed, professional integration is one of the concerns of young researchers. The industrialists who thus measure the potential of the PhD student appreciate the qualities acquired during the thesis. Unfortunately, the university career does not favor contacts with the business world, which is thus unknown to most doctoral students. It is in this perspective of bringing together doctoral students and the professional world that EDIFICE organises throughout the year, a cycle of informative conferences addressing very diverse topics such as clinical research, or the recruitment of doctors in public or private research organisations. These active meeting procedures reinforce the dialogue between the business world and future researchers.
